weeknotes 9-14-25

2 min read min read

breathe out - release the week. breathe in - prepare for the next one. it's weeknotes time!

I feel in some ways like the thematic word of the past week, as I sit and reflect, is breathe.

a lot of bad has happened. breathe. gasp.
a lot of good has happened. breathe. release.

I was going to write more but I don't think more needs to be said. Hopefully there will be something enlightening, interesting, educational, hopeful, eye-opening or similar in the links below.

what i wrote

  • I started self-hosting ente and wrote a bit about the process of doing it. An addendum is coming soon!
  • I also wrote a lament about political violence and thoughts and prayers.
  • The supreme court (well, one of the justices) tried to prove they weren't racist by showing their racism. 🤦‍♂️
  • I don't think businesses from "allied" countries can actually trust us anymore. Consider the raid on the Hyundai plant and the fact that valid visas didn't matter. We are actively destroying our reputation and as a result, our economy.
  • There's been a lot of rhetoric about political violence the past few days but is it what people claim it to be? Consider this list from Zeteo or actual research from Michael Harriot.
  • Looking for a new monospace font? Maple might be for you!
  • This essay on extremism is well worth a read.
  • On the privacy and security front, these tips from Phillip are all useful. Cory shares some around travel as well!
  • Not using BearBlog anymore I hadn't notice that there was a bit of drama in that community caused by some open source licensing changes. This break down from the Grizzly Gazette was a helpful read about it all. Seems like it was probably a good change for Herman?

apps to check out

  • Silverbullet hit v2! I've been using and loving this notetaking app for a few months. It's easy to host and easy to use and has a lot of the flexibility of Obsidian without the overhead.
  • DeltaChat is really interesting. It'd be an instant-use if I knew more folks using it but feels exhausting trying to get friends and family to move to it. Still considering setting up a relay though after reading John's detailed setup on it.

what i listened to

Collage of my top 9 album listens for the week of 9-14-25.
