If you could relive any decade, which one would you choose and why?
I was born in the very early 80s so have lived through the 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s and now heading through the 20s. Each could be summed up in brief as:
- 80s: Childhood - don’t remember a ton
- 90s: Youth - discovering who I was and what I enjoyed. Falling in love with academics, sci-fi and fantasy, music. I resonate a lot with the song 90s kid by Jax.
- 00s: Discovering life and friends and what I believed.
- 10s: “The Mission Years”
- 20s: “The Post-Mission Years” (this story is still being written).
If I could relive one, as I am now it’d be the 80s. I’d love to experience the 80s aware of myself and surroundings. If I have to choose based on who/how I was in that decade it’d be the 00s. Lots of fun was had there. I don’t think I’ve had a decade where I experienced as good or deep of friendships as then.
What year holds your fondest memories and why?
I’m going to cheat slightly and say February 08 to February 09. In this time I went on my first date with my wife, fell in love, had my first kiss, got engaged and got married (February 28, 2009). It was a good year, to say the least.
In what year did you experience your most significant personal growth?
This is a tough one. Several stand out. In 1998 my family moved from Indiana to Oklahoma when I was a high school junior which forced me to reckon with a lot. In 2004 I developed some deep clarity about the direction of my life. 2007 saw some important growth and changes in my faith. 2009 and the first year of marriage also saw it’s fair share of growth. I’m not sure what specifically I’d pick to answer.
If you could go back to your favorite year, what one event or experience would you most want to revisit?
If I’m held to my favorite year as written above I think I have to say my wedding. There are tons of fond memories that year though. I’d love to revisit a lot of it.
