Intro

I love music and discovering new music to listen to. So - I decided to share the new that really stuck out to me in 2024. I’ve got it divided into two main parts: things that came out in 2024 and things I discovered in 2024. Hopefully you can find something you like as well!

Top Albums of 2024

  1. Foxing by Foxing

Album Art from Discogs.com

I found out about this album and band on the BlackSheep Podcast recently and it’s quickly become my album of the year. Everything about it is fantastic. A slight emo edge with harder/screamo interludes. Amazing vocals and instrumentation. It’s all just really good. Favs: Listen to it all. If you’ll only give 3 songs a try, go with Secret Histories for the vocal range*, Barking* for just a great song and Spit for some interesting instrumentation.

  1. Lust for Gold by Starflyer 59

Album Art from Discogs.com

I would not have expected this one so high on my list but it’s just stuck with me. It I think echoes Silver and Gold more than some of the releases and I just love that shoegazing vibe. Favs: Listen to it all. If you have to pick a couple, pick Lust for Gold and Everyone Seems Strange.

  1. Prude by Drug Church

Album Art from Discogs.com

Drug Church is a lot of fun. The album is classified as “Rock” on Apple Music but it’s definitely on the harder edge of rock. I’d label it post-hardcore personally. I say this so you know what you are getting into. Favs: Demolition Man & Myopic

  1. Interloper by Zane Vickery

Zane is a singer/songwriter who is really good. Expect that style (leaning into indie rock maybe? It’s not particularly folky.). Favs: Whatever Light We Have, Big Things Coming and Hydrangea

  1. Negative Spaces by Poppy

Album Art from Discogs.com

Apple Music classifies Poppy as “pop” and Negative Spaces as “metal”. Expect some pretty great metal though. It’s not all screaming or harsh vocals though and my wife actually doesn’t mind it being on in the car which is definitely a bonus (so far its this album and Sleep Token that she allows). Favs: Nothing & Vital

EPs/Singles Worth Checking Out

Re-Released in 2024

(I’m a sucker for a good mashup like these…loved them when they came out and love the updated re-release.)

New to me in 2024:

There Will Be No Miracles Here by Frontier(s)

Album Art from Discogs.com

If this had been released this year, it would have probably been number 1. It’s fronted by Chris Higdon of Elliott (one of my favorite bands). I completely missed it when it did come out. It’s a similar emo vibe to Elliott but a little edgier, I’d say. Favs: I love listening to it from start to finish. Bones is my favorite song on it though.

Indigo De Souza - Any Shape You Take

Album Art from Discogs.com

I randomly shazamed a track from this album (and the next one) in an indie bookstore in Indiana. It was one of the rare-ish times where I really ended up loving the album it was from. Favs: 17 and Kill Me

Wednesday - Rat Saw God

Album Art from Discogs.com

See the last description - it applies here too! Favs: Quarry and Got Shocked

Honorable Mentions

What I really want in 2025

Appleseed Cast - This is one of my favorite bands. There last album was one of their best and it’s time for a new album. Please!

Francis and the Lights - I really love the music put out by Francis and the Lights. It’s a different genre then what you mostly see above but it always leave me feeling chill and good.

Mineral - They released a couple of new songs in 2019. It’s wishful thinking, I know, but I’d love to see another full length from them.

Ethel Cain - I don’t listen to a ton of pop but ”Preacher’s Daughter” was incredible. Would love to hear another full length from her.

Sleep Token - Their last is a GOAT contender - they need to release a new one!

Note: Albums covers come from the album’s page on Discogs.
