Weekly Roundup - 24-08-25

Once again, it's been a week!
Another week in August has passed! It's a season zapping a lot of energy if I'm honest but it was still an OK week. The kids are settled back into school though and my wife's job hunt is going well - she even has a second interview this week. Finger's crossed...
We celebrated a friends birthday at a party midweek on a rooftop in downtown Winston. The view at dusk it afforded was particularly lovely, especially with the birds flocking in the background (see the banner image!).
What I wrote
- I added some thoughts (in the form of a whole new post) to my post from April on navigating power and privilege.
- I also documented in much more detail my move to self-host Ghost.
Links worth sharing
- I don't love sharing substack articles but this piece on the un-blackening of media (and there in public discourse) by Michael Harriot is really important to read.
- For those that might be theologically minded, check out Richard Beck's thoughts on hierarchy, power and spiritual warfare.
Apps worth checking out
- 5 Spoons: This app is really cool. It's designed to help neurodivergent people with disabilities (and anyone!) communicate their energy levels using spoon theory; go check out the web app to read more! As someone who fits the neurodivergent mold with a chronic illness (Asthma) - this is a really cool idea.
- Soju: I installed this as an IRC bouncer to start moving off of discord for some communities (that bridge the services). That might interest 3 people (/s). I previously tried ZNC and didn't much care for it.
- Peekaping: I'm exploring this as an uptime monitor.
- Zed: I've mostly been editing code in a shell with VI but that's a hassle often. So, I'm exploring and liking Zed as a possible code editor for heavy lifting tasks (VI mode turned on of course).
