week notes 11-8-25

November is fully here and fall is coming to a close. Here's some of what I found interesting in the last week!

November is fully here. The stores look like Christmas. Lots of talk about Thanksgiving and "what to do" is happening. It's busy but good.

We went to a local art walk yesterday. We went last year and had a lot of fun and this year was similar. The kids each found a watercolor from a local artist to put up in their rooms and my wife found a cool hand made mug - big wins all around! We "chased" it with pho in a nearby town (it's a place we all love). If you've never had proper pho, you are missing out. It's such a good soup. Flavorful. Fresh. Perfect.

I also decided it was time to make a more proper home office and ordered a monitor, keyboard and mouse. I've spent too long as a digital nomad - good things like a better monitor for my eyes are OK.

what i wrote

  • I documented my music workflow! I love doing workflow pieces like this.
  • The NYT documented the experiences of 40 people sent to CECOT. These are the types of links we shouldn't look away from (as much as we are able) as they accurately document how horrifically evil the current government is.
  • This also fits that category: Some researches have placed the real-life people damage (ie, deaths) caused by the abrupt closure of US AID to already "six hundred thousand people, two-thirds of them children. The stories in this article from Kenya hit hard; I've know people that have been and out of those places. I know how hard things were before this tragedy. Those deaths are squarely on the backs of the evangelical church racing to put racist fascists in charge of the White House.
  • Related: This article by a judge who has just resigned is eye opening. The level of corruption in the executive branch of government is unreal.
  • I feel this post so much. Pretty accurate to America right now.
  • This review in Sojourners has made me really want to read Don't Forget We're Here Forever by Lamorna Ash.
  • The new Lily Allen album is both really good pop music and absolutely brutal. She rights from her pain around everything that has happened in her marriage to (now ex) David Harbour.

apps worth checking out

  • a Mamdani sign generator! It's a lot of fun!
  • I'm giving Marta a try as an alternative to finder. Still very new so no thoughts yet.
  • For an incredibly in-depth look at discord alternatives, check out this overview!

what i listened to

Highlights: The new Lily Allen, Hammock, Matt Maeson and Sorority Noise.

seen on social media

Qasim Rashid sharing about the election night.
The Joy of this weeks election from here.
A joke on social media where a Bon Appetit recipe post says the key to a good soup is hiding in your pantry and someone responded "I'm hiding what's next?"
My biggest social media laugh this week from here.
