After 6 months with Immich I'm giving self-hosting ente a try. After a day I can say the mobile experience is **a lot** better and the backup experience is easier too. It's interesting that they push so much off on to the apps though rather than on the server (the ML part as example) - I think I like Immich's approach there (but probably not enough to get me to go back to it).
