Lou just challenged me to the Blog Questions Challenge: Technology edition and I thought it’d be a nice break from some of the heavier topics I’ve been writing about lately. As a bonus I love technology so that helps too!

The Questions
When Did You First Get Interested In Technology?
I got into technology from a really early age. I was really lucky to have a grandfather who wanted to see that fostered. He was an engineer working in big oil and he upgraded his personal computer almost every year. We always ended up with the old one so I always had access to a year old computer. It fostered a love for tech that will always stick with me.
What’s Your Favorite Piece Of Technology All-Time?
This is a hard one. I built my own desktop PC in college and I have lots of fond memories of that experience. Also the first iPhone was pretty revolutionary (and yes I waited in line for it). My favorite though might just be adaptive cruise control. On long drives - that’s amazing to have.
What’s Your Favorite Piece Of Technology Right Now?
I’m not sure if this counts because it’s not really hardware but I’d say “Tailscale”. I love what all it will do and how easy it makes securely maintaining a home lab.
Name One New Cool Piece Of Technology We’ll Have In 25 Years!
My favorite part of most sci-fi is how technology is deprioritized. It’s in the background supporting who we are and what we do rather than controlling who we are and what we do. I want to see more tech like this that increases human flourishing by breaking the hold that phones, tablets and computers have over us.
Final Thoughts
I’ll just emphasize what I said above. I’d love to see a world where tech encourages human flourishing. I think modern infatuations (blockchain and crypto, AI, etc) do the opposite of this. The best of technology supports us in way that stays in the background, empowering what we do.
