On Starting an omg.lol Interview Series

I’d love to get to know the omg.lol community a lot better so…I’m starting an interview series for any omgloler that would like to participate!

Intro

I’ve always enjoyed interview style blog posts that highlight interesting people. Occasionally I’ll find interview series that are well worth following, like People & Blogs by Manu. It’s heavily blog focused (which is not a bad thing! It’s the vision for the series!) so doesn’t necessarily capture people that may not be as visible online. As an alternative to that and similar interview series, I’ve decided to host one on this blog focused on the OMG.LOL community (at least initially - it could branch out down the road). I’m not necessarily planning the interviews to be overly long or heavy. It’s not a podcast (I don’t think I’d be particularly good at that). It’s just some questions that I think are interesting to help us, the readers, get to know you, whoever is being interviewed, a bit better.

The questions

Can you share a bit about yourself with us?

This should hopefully be self explanatory - we want to learn a bit about the person being interviewed. This bio section can be as long or as short as the interviewee chooses. It’s up to the question answerer to decide! If I think there needs to be a clarifying question or two I’ll ask but I’d love for the interviewee’s voice and story to shine.

What motivates you day to day?

I’m fascinated by the way people work and go about there day. I’m fascinated to learn what motivates and drives them - the passion underneath everything. The goal of this question is to be able to learn about the different motivations we have.

We are all different. Keeping in mind your context and mine (I’m a white cis-het American dude in his 40s) what is one thing you want me to know?

This is the one question I may be most excited about if I’m honest. We are all different, go through different things, have different cultures, challenges, experiences, etc. The reality of intersectionality is that someone like me tends to be at the top of the power hierarchy so it’s particularly important for me to take time to learn and listen (and change if necessary). I spent years experiencing this first hand living in other cultures. The ability to listen to others (even if we may not agree) is so important and I’m hoping this is an avenue to do that.

What are three favorites? (It can be anything like food, books, media, etc; share a few sentences about each though and each one can be a different category, ie, a favorite food, a favorite book and a favorte album)

This is a lighter, fun question. I love hearing about people’s favorite things. It’s how I’ve gotten some of the best music or book or video recommendations (like Keenan sharing their love of the Kenji youtube channel a couple of months ago).

What is one quote that you can’t get out of your head?

Similar to the previous question but looking specifically for a quote that really defines them. Not everyone may have one and that’s OK but I suspect a lot of us do.

What is one thing you’ve discovered that someone else created that you’d like to promote?

Similar to the previous question but focused on what you’ve found that others have created that are worth promoting.
